How to Get the Most Out of High Point Market

Spring High Point Market is here! Are you ready? Market is always a busy time. So much to cover in just a few days. By now you’ve probably already started making your list of what you want to see and whom you want to visit. Be sure, though, to reserve some time for the other activities on offer that will make your trip not only productive but memorable.

One of the great rewards, for me, for attending Market is getting to meet new people and developing new relationships, as well as getting together with old friends. I find it rejuvenating to be among such a large group of my peers, to swap stories, and hear about how their businesses are going. I find I still have so much to learn from them.

Over the years, I also have found that Market can be an unexpected source of inspiration. Certainly, there is plenty of new products to look at, investigate and envision in some future design project. Make it a point to go outside your design comfort zone and include some showrooms or product lines you might not ordinarily take the time to visit. Doing so can give you a fresh perspective. In addition, allow some time to recharge your batteries. Just getting away from the daily grind and interacting with different people can help get the juices flowing again.

While you’re at Market, take advantage of the excellent educational and professional development opportunities available. Whether you’re interested in learning more about current industry trends or looking for ways to improve your business, you’re bound to finding something that meets your needs.

I will be presenting at several sessions Spring Market, including Systematizing Your Business for Scale and Sanity (Saturday, April 6, 9:00 to 11:00 AM) and Designers State of the Industry (Sunday, April 7, 9:30 to 11:30 AM). I’m also participating in the Universal to the Trade Designer’s Lounge Unplugged events on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7 (2:00 to 4:00 PM each day).
